Chapter 1: Himanshi

When I first saw him, I thought he was nothing more than an irritating leech—one who knew exactly how to get on my nerves. I can't explain why I daydream about him so often. He is more than just an enemy, foe, rival, opponent, nemesis, or challenger; he holds a unique place in my life. I truly don’t understand how or why I met him.

Now, let me introduce myself: Hi, I’m Himanshi Mehta, an 18-year-old girl who is beautiful, talented, and talkative—at least, that’s what everyone says!

“Hima! Hima! Where are you? Come quickly! Riya is waiting for you. Don’t you want to go to college today?” my mom shouted from downstairs.

“Coming, Ma!” I yelled back, rushing to get ready. If I didn’t hurry, my mother would greet me with her big slippers, and I wasn’t in the mood for that. I was already half an hour late for college. Oh no!

I sprinted downstairs, grabbing my bag. “Riya, come on! We’re already late! Why are you just standing there? Hurry up!”

“Oh, now you remember you have a friend, do you?” Riya crossed her arms, raising an eyebrow. “It’s not my fault you’re late. You could have at least greeted me properly, but no, the princess has already started ordering me around!”

“I’m sorry, my queen. I know I’m late. Now, let’s go! Bye, Ma! I’ll be home soon!” I said, giving my mom a quick kiss on the cheek before dashing out.

I swear I had no intention of running into him, but the moment I stepped onto the college grounds, there he was—Maanvir Singh Chauhan. His name alone sounded like he belonged to some royal dynasty. But only I knew the truth—he was nothing more than an annoying leech!

“Hello, princess. Don’t you feel even a little ashamed?” Maanvir smirked, leaning against the railing with his usual arrogant stance.

I rolled my eyes. “Ashamed of what, exactly?”

“You’re always late for college. And as the head of the sports team, shouldn’t I give you some kind of punishment?” His smirk deepened.

I clenched my teeth. “Oh, I’m so sorry, Maanvir sir,” I said sarcastically. “Next time I’m late, I’ll be sure to send you an email in advance. Would that be acceptable?”

He chuckled. “Okay, princess.”

That smirk. That stupid smirk. I swear I wanted to slap it right off his face.

"Leech," I muttered under my breath.

“Hima, come fast! Ronnie is waiting for you in the college garden,” Mohit informed me, looking slightly nervous.

Maanvir, standing nearby, clenched his fists.

"Hi, Mohit," Riya said, her voice a little too soft—was she blushing?

"Haan, hi," Mohit replied absentmindedly, completely ignoring her.

I groaned. Not again. "Mohit, why don’t you just tell him I’m busy? Or that a teacher called me? Please, please, please," I begged, hoping to escape whatever mess Ronnie had planned this time.

"You know how he is, Himanshi. Just come fast, or he’ll eat me alive!" Mohit shouted over his shoulder as he hurried away.

With a deep sigh, I made my way to the college garden.

And there he was—Ronnie. On one knee.

Oh no.

This is definitely not how I wanted my day to start.
